WOYWW 260

Hello My Bloggy Friends!

So happy to be here today on this 5th Anniversary
of  Julia's  WOYWW!
I am only a couple months new here
and it has been so fun!
I am not embarrassed or shy to show my mess...oops...desk!
The bloggers here are so much fun, supportive, friendly and
I really appreciate that!
So with that said, I am ready to swap some ATCs!
Some of my ATCs are from projects & swaps from this past year;
I always make extra (just in case), you never know
when your going to need them! Today is a perfect example.
I also made some just for today!
Soooo if you want to swap let me know!

Happy ANNIVERSARY Julia at the STAMPING GROUND!
Go check it out and see what this is all about!
Thanks for visiting me!
Have a CREATIVE week!

WOYWW 259

Whew what a week!
When I visited some of the work desks last week
everyone was commenting on how fast the weeks are flying by!
My week was lightening fast!!!
So here I am week 259 almost to the 5th anniversary ATC week and
very excited by the way!  Here is a link for
some more info if you want to participate
 in the  ATC SWAP  too!
I made some ATCs and am ready to swap!
Well, here is what is on my desk....sink.....stove...
this week!

Yes- this is a vintage wedding dress...
Yes-the first cut is the hardest! This is an upcycle project.
My friend (who finds the dresses for me)
thought this one was the oldest and in the worst shape
so far, this is the 3rd one.
Another friend had given me some fresh beets so I thought
I would cook my beets then dye some
dress...lace and bits of stuff!
It worked out great!
Here are my luscious shades of perfect pinks!
Depending on the types of fabric and how long it soaks
will determine the shade. You never know what you are
going to get (my favorite part!).
Now they will sit around till I decide what
beautiful creation they will become...and some
will go into my Etsy store (when it opens)
for others to decide what
they want to create!
PLEASE visit Julia at the STAMPING GROUND
to check out all the other deskers!
Hope everyone has had a wildly
productive week!

WOYWW 258

Hello Friends!
Whew! The last 2 weeks has been crazy insane busy!
This project will be on and off my desk for the next year....or more.
It is for an international organization called Days For Girls.

Days for Girls empowers Days of education.
Days of health. Days of safety. Days of dignity. We do this by direct
distribution of sustainable feminine hygiene kits by partnering with nonprofits,
groups and organizations, by raising awareness, and importantly, by helping       impoverished communities start their own programs to supply kits and training. Together with our network of thousands of exceptional volunteers and partners, we have reached tens of thousands of girls and women in over 70 nations on 6 continents.
What if not having sanitary supplies meant DAYS without school, DAYS without income, DAYS without leaving the house? Girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find...but still miss up to 2 months of school every year. Worse, girls are often exploited in exchange for hygiene (see one girl talk about it here). It turns out this issue is a surprising but instrumental key to social change for women all over the world. The poverty cycle can be broken when girls stay in school..

Our church has what is called Serving Saturday 2 or 3 times a year, so I planned a SEW IN to make, bags, shields and liners for Days for Girls.

We made 50 shields (on the left). The 175 liners are next to that
and the 60 drawstring bags behind that. The bright flowered
bags contain the Ziploc bags loaded with the rest of the stuff
that goes in the kits.
We had 23 ladies show up. WoooHooo!
Our goal is 100 kits for the year and this was our first event.
A kit contains- 2 shields
                     8 liners
                                1 pair of undies
                            1 washcloth
                             1 bar of soap
                             2 freezer bags
All of this is put into a bright colored drawstring bag
worn as a backpack (so young ladies can wear it to school)
and know one knows whats inside! Clever huh?
We had so much fun!
The ladies donated some great
fabric and brought some very tasty
  food!
Cant wait to do it again!
Well that's what's on (off) my desk
the last 2 weeks.
Can't wait to be a nosy rosy
and take a peek at yours!
Please join Julia at the Stamping Ground
to visit the other WOYWWers!
Have a Creative week!
